I wrote this letter because of the relentless and renewed attacks against gun ownership in the United States flamed by the tragedy in Florida at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. I’m going to try and clarify a few misconceptions about gun control and the intentions of those who are truly behind it. We may not agree on this issue, but I hope after you read this, you can at least understand why I feel the way I do.

The forces of a grave threat that most wrongfully believe fell in the 1990s are laying open siege on the bedrock of freedom. In these dark times, a quote that gives me strength and reminds me why we have to so desperately fight them on all fronts repeats itself with ever greater volume inside my mind: “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction.” The United States, for all its faults and follies, remains the last best hope of democracy on earth; it is the only place in the Western world where citizens cannot face arbitrary and unjust punishment for merely sharing their opinions. What the ignorant advocates fail to realize is that the only thing standing in the way of government persecution in the United States is not the US First Amendment, but the Second. Freedom is ultimately not preserved with convincing words and emotional outbursts. Indeed, the last thing that stays the course of American, and in that, Western democracy, is the weapons Americans bear afforded to them under the principles the nation was formed. The Founding Fathers knew what a successful nation needed to thrive and survive – a capable, informed, and resistant population. That population must be able to defend itself against enemies foreign and domestic that would otherwise have them silenced and neutered of all political power. These are not weapons of hunting – that is not the argument. They are the weapons of freedom – the weapons that stand in the way of those who are trying so desperately to take them away – not the concerned mothers or the grieving children, but the malicious plotters so cowardly hiding in the shadows behind the cries of the aforementioned. They lead every Western media outlet and government bureaucracy, the “permanent government.” This is why we hold the line. This is why they, the malicious, the ruling class, the aristocrats and bureaucrats, those who view you and I as peasants, are laying all their cards on the table and using every dirty trick in the book to slowly but surely disarm “We The People.” This is the battle upon which freedom lives or dies.

“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
