WWE Extreme Rules 2017. This one slipped past me without much thought and I didn’t expect to be giving the results on this PPV. Hell, I may as well though because surprisingly it was quite good.
Dean Ambrose (c) vs. The Miz – Intercontinental Championship
Winner: The Miz
After a long while on the Raw brand, Dean Ambrose has finally dropped the Intercontinental championship. It’s sort of came full circle in a way, with The Miz holding the belt on the Smackdown brand last year. He was well on his way to breaking the long standing record held by the Honky Tonk Man. There’s a definite chance that this can happen once again. I wouldn’t mind seeing the record broken, and The Miz should certainly be the person to do so.
They definitely made the right decision in dropping the belt to The Miz. However I’m very interested to see who he’ll face next and worried for who Dean Ambrose will face too. My bets are on Finn Balor facing one of them, especially considering the main event result.
Sasha Banks and Rich Swann vs. Naom Dar and Alicia Fox
Winner: Sasha Banks and Rich Swann
This was a match for some reason. I’ve been out of the loop on feuds for a while now and haven’t had the chance to dive back in yet. Still, the point remains as to what was going on with this match.
If I’m honest, I don’t think this match will really matter in a months time. Sure, these four are very talented wrestlers, but you know, what’s going to come of this feud? Most likely nothing, unless they want to set up Sasha vs. Alexa Bliss soon, which I can definitely see happening.
The reviews for the match really weren’t all that good either. Take that with a grain of salt when watching his match. Four talented wrestlers were thrown together, presumably just to buff the card out a bit.
Alexa Bliss (c) vs. Bayley – WWE Women’s Championship
Winner: Alexa Bliss
This match is a shame. Apparently it went on for too short a time. On top of that, in my humble opinion, the wrong person won. Really it should have been Bayley winning the belt. Maybe that’s because I’m a fan of Bayley, she’s impeccable in the ring. All she needs is a bit of mic work and a heel turn and she’ll be a worthy foe once more.
The problem with Bayley losing this match is that she’s now going to flounder around in the mid card for a few months. At this point her career has done a Dolph Ziggler. She has the fans behind her and she’s talented, but it’s gonna be a while before her next break.
As for Alexa Bliss, she’ll feud with whoever is up on the rotating list. Nia Jax maybe? It’s about time she had a title shot.
The Hardy’s vs. Cesaro (c) and Sheamus – WWE Tag Team Titles
Winner: Cesaro and Sheamus
Again, the wrong people won. That’s putting it simply, so I suppose I better go into a bit more detail. The Hardy’s, for loss of better wording, have been “hot shit” since they joined back with the WWE. For them to drop the titles to two former midcarders is a bit strange.
Still, I’m sure there’s some long term plan for Matt and Jeff Hardy. What’s most likely going to happen is a brother vs. brother feud, one of them will retire and the other will forever remain in the midcard. Not a bad plan by any stretch, but it’s basically retreading similar ground.
As for the champions? Who knows, they’ll drop it to The New Day and they’ll break their own record or something. More than likely though, a new tag team will take the belts away in a few months time. The Ascension maybe? I would say the Vaudevillains, but, you know…
Neville (c) vs. Austin Aries – Cruiserweight Championship
Honestly, I’m enjoying the Cruiserweight division. I had my obvious reservations but they seem to have fizzled out because of these two. Neville is one of the best heels in the company and Austin Aries is someone the crowd can get behind.
Isn’t it about time they dropped the belt to Aries though? The poor sod has been feuding with Neville for months and doesn’t have too many wins. It’s about time they stop messing with him and just give him the belt. What will Neville do? Who knows, there’s nobody he can have the same momentum with in the Cruiserweight division. A WWE Championship run would be excellent for him.
To be fair, Aries could do well on the main roster as well. There’s no reason he couldn’t shift to the main roster as well. Although at that stage you’ve got a very lacklustre Cruiserweight division. Does Bobby Roode count as a Cruiserweight? And if so why is he still on NXT anyway. It’s time he shifts to the main roster, and by extension, the Universal Championship.
Samoa Joe vs. Finn Balor vs. Bray Wyatt vs. Seth Rollins vs. Roman Reigns
Winner: Samoa Joe
Thank God this was the outcome. I don’t think many people realise how dreadful a Reigns victory would be. Even a Rollins victory would have been pretty bad. A number one contenders match to face Brock Lesnar. My personal pick would have been Bray Wyatt, a math between those two is a genuine dream match.
I can see why they didn’t put Balor up against Brock Lesnar. They don’t want him injured for another year, they have to ween him in slowly. By slowly I mean wait until John Cena can carry him to a championship win.
Well, the PPV wasn’t all bad by the looks of things. What impact will it have? That’s anyone’s guess, my track record is pretty good though. Take my word with a grain of salt though. I’m more than definitely wrong on some of these predictions.
