Cast: Peter Capaldi, Matt Smith, David Tennant, Jenna Coleman

We’re one tenth of the way through our TV Shows list currently. I thought we’d take a look at a show that isn’t really traditional comedy. It’s not even really a comedy.

Doctor Who is a show that I haven’t watched since 2010. Sometime after David Tennant was replaced. But I recently watched a couple of episodes and I thought a good way to ease my way back in was to write an article on it.

So the show has taken a very different turn since the time I watched it. I was used to a bubbly Scotsman running around with a blonde woman. Now we have Malcolm Tucker from The Thick of It yelling in Scottish until the aliens disintegrate. Anyway, it’s not too different. Doctor Who seems to always pride itself on a strong cast and there have been no major changes that have negatively impacted the show.

A strong cast is only as good as the script. Luckily every episode I have watched of Doctor Who (both old and new) boasts a phenomenal script. Each unique alien or monster feels right at place in the Doctor Who universe. As for the recurring aliens and monsters, they never feel out of place either. They’re only there if they need to serve a purpose. I don’t think there’s ever been an episode where they’ve had to pull an old classic alien out to boost ratings.

The CGI is pretty good considering it’s a TV show. Usually TV shows don’t have the best CGI but Doctor who is a rare exception to this rule. Each CGI animation is worthwhile and looks extremely realistic. I remember the Adipose. Little chewing gum looking things that people swallowed, in turn making them explode. It was phenomenal.

Creativity is on display everywhere in Doctor Who. It’s been around for years and years. The older episodes are just as good as the new series. CGI isn’t as prominent in the older episodes and they rely more on makeup. It’s truly amazing and the older episodes are fascinating. The writing is just as good too.

I can’t recommend the show enough (like all the others), so go and do yourself a favour and give it a watch.
