People line up to enter a newly-opened Apple Store in Wangfujing shopping district in Beijing.

Tech giant Apple is almost ready to start another smart phone craze. The iPhone 7 is set to be available worldwide on September 16. Grab your wallet, your keys, and something to protect yourself while you’re waiting in those crazy lines. (That was a joke.)

The phone features minor upgrades from the previous iPhone 6S. Most consumers will notice the lack of a headphone jack.

The iPhone 7 will be 5.44″ long and 2.64″ wide, as well as a skinny 0.28″ thick. Apple’s latest phone weighs in at just ~4.9 ounces. It also comes in a variety of colors, including Rose Gold, Gold, Silver, Black, and Jet Black.

Technically speaking, the iPhone 7 puts forward minor upgrades when compared to its predecessor, the iPhone 6S. The dual lenses on its forward facing camera is likely┬áto set a new industry standard and take gorgeous, crisp photographs. (Why dual lenses are important.) That is, after all, what Apple’s known for.

End of an Era: Goodbye Headphone Jack

When the iPhone 7 was first announced, it was revealed that the latest iPhone wouldn’t come with a headphone jack. The headphone jack is nearly universal to music and audio accessories. Apple’s move comes as the industry-leading company tries to make Lightning-based accessories the new normal, but it could also isolate them as weary customers hesitate to move away from traditional headphones and accessories.

A dusty headphone port speaks metaphorically to Apple’s latest move which removes them from their phones

Of course, there’s always adapters (for an additional price) that can allow the use of traditional headphone jacks with┬áthe iPhone 7’s Lightning port.

It’s unclear whether Apple’s change of play will be received well. Only time will tell if this idea sells. It is no coincidence that Lightning-based accessories are more expensive than the traditional alternatives.

Is it Worth Getting?

The iPhone 7 continues Apple’s consistent legacy of quality technology. Whether it’s worth getting or not depends on your budget and needs. If you have the iPhone 6S, the iPhone 7 is probably not going to be something you’ll want to camp out in line┬áfor.

However, if you’re a couple iPhone generations behind, now is a good time to upgrade. The iPhone 7 combines a powerful processor, high-resolution display and the latest in camera technology to provide a truly personalized smartphone experience. Users will be empowered to explore the world around them with the powerful tools the iPhone 7 has to offer.

You can pre-order the iPhone 7 (with the 32GB storage capacity configuration) starting September 9 for $649 USD.
